Susan Nsibirwa, widely known as Sue Nsibirwa, is a seasoned media and corporate executive whose name has recently drawn regional attention following a public row involving Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
As the Managing Director of Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda, Nsibirwa leads one of East Africa’s most influential media organizations amid heightened tensions between the press and the state.
Her long career, built over more than two decades, has seen her rise from a young communications professional to one of the most powerful figures in Uganda’s media industry.
Early Life and Education
Susan Nsibirwa was born in Uganda in August 1970 and raised in Kampala.
She is the granddaughter of former Buganda Katikkiro Martin Luther Nsibirwa.
She attended Aunt Clare Kindergarten in Namirembe before joining Kitante Primary School for her primary education.
For secondary school, she studied at Nabisunsa Girls School for O-Level and later moved to Gayaza High School for A-Level.
Nsibirwa then joined Makerere University, graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.

She later pursued further studies and obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nicosia in Cyprus.
Sue Nsibirwa’s Career Journey
Sue Nsibirwa’s relationship with Nation Media Group dates back to 1992, when she contributed an article to the inaugural edition of The Monitor, published on July 31 that year.
At the time, the newspaper was a young publication operating out of rented premises in Kampala.
She soon transitioned into professional roles, beginning work in August 1992 as a Press Attaché at the French Embassy in Kampala, where she served until December 1994.
Between 1995 and 1997, she worked as a Media Manager at Scanad Uganda before joining Saatchi and Saatchi as Regional Account Manager from 1999 to 2002.
Her career then moved into corporate Uganda. From 2002 to 2005, she worked as Advertising and Brand Manager at MTN Uganda.
She later joined Commercial Microfinance Limited as Head of Retail and Marketing from 2005 to 2006 before moving to DFCU Bank, where she served as Head of Marketing from November 2006 to May 2010.
Between July 2010 and March 2011, she was Managing Partner at Weaver Options, after which she joined Vision Group as Head of Marketing and Communications in February 2011, a role she held until February 2019.

She later served in consultancy roles, including Managing Partner at URGE Uganda from March 2019 to June 2022 and Managing Director at Ayiva Consulting Solutions from June 2022.
Return to Nation Media Group Leadership
On January 2, 2024, Sue Nsibirwa returned to Monitor Publications Limited as Managing Director, replacing Tony Glencross, who had served for eight years.
Her appointment marked a historic milestone as she became the first woman to lead Nation Media Group Uganda.
She was tasked with overseeing all company operations, including NTV Uganda, Daily Monitor, The EastAfrican, Spark TV, KFM, and Dembe FM.
Her mandate included driving digital transformation, expanding revenue streams, and strengthening the company’s editorial and business strategy at a time of disruption in the global media industry.
Nsibirwa’s leadership has now been tested by a major political and media confrontation.
On June 28, 2026, Gen. Muhoozi publicly posted that he was “looking for her” and directed police to arrest her, following the shutdown of NMG media platforms and deployment of security forces at company premises.
Nsibirwa has previously defended bold journalism, arguing that the media must continue to hold authority accountable despite the risks involved.
Family and net worth
Ms. Nsibirwa keeps her private life out of the public eye, with little information available about her family.
Her net worth has not been publicly disclosed, but her extensive career in senior leadership roles across media, banking, and telecommunications places her among Uganda’s top corporate executives.
