Omar Abdi Shurie is a Kenyan politician representing Balambala Constituency, Mandera County, in the National Assembly.
Affiliated with the Jubilee Party of Kenya, he has served since his election in 2017 and was re-elected in 2022.

Omar Abdi attended Kenyatta University earlier, where he pursued graduate-level (undergraduate) studies from 2004 to 2006.
He then enrolled for postgraduate studies between 2006 and 2009 at the same university.

His early career started in the security forces after joining the National Youth Service (NYS) in 1973.
He then transitioned into the police force around 1975, where he rose through the ranks.
Omar Abdi served as Deputy Commandant at the Administration Police Training College (APTC) in Embakasi, Nairobi.
Over about 40 years in security service, he earned recognition for daring operations, including hostage negotiations, counterterrorism, and border security, especially along the Kenya-Somalia border region.
He has been decorated with several awards, including the Head of State Commendation (HSC), Order of the Golden Warrior (OGW), and an excellence award from Egypt’s President Mubarak.
Additionally, he served as a Director at Kenya Airports Authority from 2013 to 2015 and holds a postgraduate degree from Kenyatta University.
He was first elected as a Member of the National Assembly for Balambala Constituency in August 2017.
In the 12th Parliament (2017–2022), he served on both the Administration and National Security Committee and the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee.
In 2021, he vied for the same seat and was successfully re-elected in 2022, continuing his service in the 13th Parliament.
In the 13th Parliament, his roles expanded to include membership in the Committee on Appointment, the Liaison Committee, and the Committee on Selection.
