History of Airtel Kenya
Airtel Kenya, the second-largest telecommunications operator in Kenya, was established following Bharti Airtel’s acquisition of Zain Africa’s mobile operations in 2010.
Zain Africa, a subsidiary of the Kuwait-based Zain Group, had previously operated in Kenya under the Zain brand, providing mobile voice, data, and value-added services.
After the acquisition, Bharti Airtel rebranded the operations as Airtel Kenya and integrated them into its wider African network.
This was part of Bharti Airtel’s strategy to expand its footprint across the African continent and compete with Safaricom, the market leader in Kenya.
