Biography

Faith Kipyegon is a three-time world record holder after breaking records in the 1500m, 5000m, and one-mile distances.

Education

Kipyegon attended Keringet Township Primary School before joining Keringe Winners Girls High School in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.

Winners Girls was established by a Dutch philanthropist known as Piet de Peut. The mission of the school is to give a conducive environment for learning while at the same time tapping talent.

Kipyegon sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2015. In the line with its mission, the school has produced some of the best athletes in Kenya.

Other than Kipyegon, the school has produced other top athletes including Mercy Chebwogen who won the 2011 World Junior champion in 3000m.

Africa Senior Athletics Championship Silver winner Jackline Chepng’eno is also an alumnus of Winners Girls.

Others who attended the school alumni include 2013 world youth steeplechase champion Roseline Chepngetich and Joyline Cherotich who won a bronze medal in the World Youth championship 2015.

Faith Kipyegon Career & World Records

The Kenyan had an incredible season in 2023. She achieved a remarkable feat by breaking three world track records in three events in under 50 days.

Faith broke the women’s 1,500m world record at the Diamond League meeting in Florence, Italy, at 3:49.11, less than a week later.

The athlete set a new 5,000m world record at the Diamond League event in Paris, clocking an impressive 14:05.20. However, this record was later surpassed by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, who posted a time of 14:00.21.

Continuing her remarkable run, she shattered the one-mile world record at the Diamond League meet in Monaco with a time of 4:07.64.

Kipyegon further cemented her legacy at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, by winning both the 1,500m and 5,000m events, becoming the first woman to achieve this double victory at the global level. Her stellar season was recognized when she was named the World Athlete of the Year for 2023.
