Abel Mutua, popularly known as Mkurugenzi, is a Kenyan actor, screenwriter, producer, content creator, and entrepreneur widely regarded as one of the country’s most influential modern storytellers.

Age, Early Life and Education
Abel Mutua, born on August 28, 1986, in Nairobi, is 39 years old and grew up in Kibera before his family later moved to Laini in Ngong.
In an interview, Abel once stated that growing up in these environments shaped his perspective and storytelling style.
“All good creatives draw content and inspiration from their own experiences or things they have seen and heard,” said Abel.
Mutua attended St. Dominic Primary School before proceeding to Lenana School for his secondary education.
He later joined the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), where he studied film production, specializing in camera techniques.

Abel Mutua began his media career in the late 2000s and gained wide recognition for playing Freddie in the popular TV show Tahidi High on Citizen TV.

After Tahidi High, he expanded his writing portfolio to include shows such as Mother-In-Law. However, rather than remain confined to acting and scriptwriting, he took a bold step into production.
Together with filmmaker Philip Karanja, he co-founded Phil-It Productions, which has grown into a leading content production company in Kenya.
