Joseph Dena Hamisi is a Kenyan politician and a Nominated Member of the National Assembly in the 13th Parliament as a representative of the Amani National Congress (ANC) in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
Early Life and Education
Joseph Hamisi started his formal education by attending Mombasa Baptist High School from 1984 to 1987, where he achieved his Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE).
He proceeded to study for his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) at Mombasa Baptist High School from 1988 and graduated in 1989.
From 1991 to 1994, Joseph Hamisi, driven by a passion for hospitality and tourism, attended Kenya Utalii College and graduated with 3 diplomas:
- International Diploma of the Air Transport Association (IATA)
- International Diploma of Universal Federation of Travel Agents
- Association Diploma in Travel Operations and Tourism
He deepened his knowledge by attending the Kenya Institute of Management from 1995 to 1997, where he earned a Diploma in Marketing Management.
His desire to become an expert in management saw him join the United States International University (USIU), where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management between 1998 and 2000.
He later returned to USIU for a Master of International Business Administration (MIBA), which he completed in 2002.
Hamisi made a significant academic shift in 2003 when he attended the University of Nairobi to study a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and graduated in 2006.
Career
Joseph Dena Hamisi began his career in 1994 as a Manager at African Tourist Hotels, where his role was to oversee operations, service quality, and customer satisfaction.
In 2007, he was appointed Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya, serving until 2008.
From 2007 to 2010, he served as Director at the Coast Development Authority, where he contributed to regional economic initiatives, infrastructure planning, and resource management in Kenya’s coastal counties.
In 2009, Hamisi was appointed Director at the Kenya Airports Authority, a position he held until 2012.
During his tenure, he participated in strategic decision-making on airport expansion, modernization, and aviation safety.
Between 2011 and 2012, he served as Director at the Kenya National Accreditation Service (KENAS).
In 2013, he was appointed Council Member at the University of Nairobi, serving until 2018 before joining the Council of Moi University, contributing to policy, financial oversight, and institutional development until 2022.
Hamisi’s political career took a formal turn in 2022, when he was nominated as a Member of the National Assembly under the Amani National Congress (ANC) party within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
