Stewart Madzayo is a Kenyan politician and the current as the Senator for Kilifi County under the Orange Democratic Party (ODM).
Early life and education
Stewart Madzayo was born on June 16, 1958, in Chonyi, Bahari Constituency, Kilifi County.
He began his education at Mvita Primary School, completing his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1973.
He then attended Mombasa Baptist High School, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1977.
In 1978, Madzayo traveled to India to pursue higher education, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree from Jabalpur University in 1981, followed by a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Bombay University in 1984.
Returning to Kenya, he enrolled at the Kenya School of Law, completing his Post-Graduate Diploma in Law in 1988, which enabled him to be admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

Stewart Madzayo began his professional career in law shortly after completing his Post-Graduate Diploma in Law in 1988.
He practiced in private legal firms from 1988 to 1996, gaining extensive experience in civil, commercial, and labor law.
In 1996, Madzayo transitioned to the judiciary, joining the Industrial Court of Kenya as a judge.
He served in this capacity from 1996 to 2012, where he presided over labor and employment disputes, helping shape legal precedents in industrial relations.
His tenure on the bench provided him with deep insight into labor law, workers’ rights, and dispute resolution, experiences that would later influence his legislative priorities as a senator.
Political career
By the time he entered politics in 2013, Madzayo had accumulated over 25 years of legal and judicial experience, which positioned him as a knowledgeable and credible figure capable of contributing to lawmaking, governance, and public policy at the national level.

Stewart Madzayo began his political journey in 2002, when he contested the Bahari parliamentary seat on a Ford People ticket, although he was not successful.
Undeterred, he continued his engagement in public service and political activities, building a strong base in Kilifi County.
In 2013, Madzayo successfully transitioned to the Senate, representing Kilifi County under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) banner during the 8th Parliament.
He was re-elected in 2017 for a second term and again in 2022, marking his third consecutive term in the Senate.
In the 13th Parliament, Madzayo was appointed Senate Minority Leader, a role in which he coordinates the opposition’s legislative agenda and represents minority party interests in parliamentary proceedings.
He also serves on several key Senate committees, including the Senate Business Committee, the Health Committee, and the Labour and Social Welfare Committee.
