Serah Wanjiku Thiga serves as the National Youth Leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in Kenya.

Serah Wanjiku Thiga has pursued a multidisciplinary academic path that combines communication, development, leadership, and language studies.

Her higher education journey began at the University of Nairobi, where she studied from 2011 to 2015, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Communication.

In 2016, she expanded her international and linguistic competencies by undertaking French language studies at Alliance Française Kenya, where she earned a Certificate in French Studies between 2016 and 2017.

From 2020 to 2023, she pursued her postgraduate education at Daystar University, graduating with a Master of Arts in Development Communication.

This advanced training positioned her for deeper engagement in social policy, gender advocacy, and public affairs, areas she is currently active.

In 2021, Thiga also enrolled in a professional development programme at the European Business University of Luxembourg.

Between September 2021 and February 2022, she completed a specialised course in Women and Leadership Power, Identity & Influence, where she explored structural and interpersonal challenges that women face in leadership.

Career background

Her career began in January 2019 when she became the Secretary General of DadaPower Initiative in Murang’a County.

During the same year, she briefly worked as a Communications Consultant from August to September 2019.

From January 2019 to May 2025, Serah served as the Citizen Engagement and Public Participation Lead at the World Scouts Parliamentary Union – Kenya.

Between 2019 and 2023, she held the position of Communications and Public Relations Lead for the Youth Spaces Program in Nairobi County.

In 2020, Serah founded the Gears for Change Initiative in Juja, Kiambu County, where she serves as Chairperson.

Through this platform, she has championed gender equality, governance reforms, and anti-corruption initiatives.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, from October 2020 to January 2021, Serah worked as a Strategic Communications Consultant with the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM).

In 2021, she joined ActionAid Denmark as a Communications and Documentation for Influencing Inspirator, supporting youth-led advocacy and women’s rights through targeted communication efforts.

From September 2022 to March 2023, Serah worked with the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) as a Communications Advisor.

Between January 2023 and May 2025, Serah served in a critical advisory capacity as the Partnerships and Development Support Advisor at the Office of the Woman Representative in Kirinyaga County.

Since May 2025, Serah has been serving as the National Youth Leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP)
