Reverend Julian Kyula is the founder and Senior Pastor of Ruach Ministries, a church he established in Nairobi in 2007 as The Purpose Centre Church.

He is also the vision bearer of Rhema Feast, a Christian gathering that brings together thousands of believers.

Beyond ministry, Kyula is an entrepreneur and businessman with interests spanning fintech, real estate and housing development.

He founded the MODE Group in 2010 and currently serves as Chairman of Beulah City Ltd, a company focused on housing developments across Africa.

His public profile extends beyond Kenya, with his work in leadership, entrepreneurship and business earning him recognition across Africa and internationally.

In 2019, Kyula also helped broker an agreement between the Government of Kenya and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) the deliver 100,000 affordable houses under the Big Four Agenda.

Away from his ministry and business ventures, Kyula is married to Amanda Kyula, and together they have three sons.

His Family and How He Grew Up with Them

Rev. Julian Kyula grew up in a close-knit family alongside his four sisters. In an interview with Churchill, he said two of his sisters later pursued careers in the banking sector.

Kyula credited his parents with shaping his understanding of marriage and family. He described them as good role models who raised their children in the fear of God.

His father worked in the banking sector at Barclays Bank, now Absa, for about 40 years. Kyula also recalled that his father was once denied a job at Kenya Railways because he was limping.

Rev. Kyula’s father’s career saw the family move to different parts of Kenya during Kyula’s childhood, including Machakos and Eldoret.

How Rev. Julian Kyula Met His Wife

Kyula met Amanda while living in Houston, Texas, in the United States. He first connected with her through her sister, whom he met at church and who later married Don, a man Kyula described as his brother.

After church, Don asked Kyula to drop Amanda’s sister off at her home. On the way, Kyula offered to buy her some food as a courtesy and ended up buying chicken for the family. Amanda later came out of the house to thank him, giving Kyula an opportunity to meet her.

He recalled that he initially thought Amanda was Ethiopian until she spoke Kiswahili, revealing that she was Kenyan and from the Taita community.

When he met her, she had not yet been born again, but she eventually gave her life to Christ. The two gradually got to know each other, and Amanda later began attending church.

He described her as quiet and said he was certain God had chosen her for him. He was 31 at the time.

Their plans to marry, however, faced some resistance from Amanda’s family. Her mother, who was a principal at Ngara Girls, was initially reluctant about the marriage because she wanted her daughter to remain abroad.

Kyula later returned to Kenya and decided that he wanted to settle in the country. In an open-talk interview with Bishop Mark Kariuki, he recalled calling Amanda, who was still his girlfriend at the time, and asking her to come to Kenya so they could get married.

Amanda eventually came to Kenya, and the couple got married. Later, he and his wife founded The Purpose Center Church, which later became Ruach Ministries.

That same year, he started a company to help provide for his family, while he and Amanda welcomed their first son.
