Muhoroni Youth Football Club has today officially unveiled Kapseret Member of Parliament Kipchumba Oscar Sudi as its new club patron in a move aimed at reviving the team’s fortunes and strengthening its operations both on and off the pitch.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, where the club’s management and supporters gathered to witness what is being described as a new chapter for the team.
New Chapter for Muhoroni Youth FC
In a statement released shortly after the event, Muhoroni Youth expressed gratitude to the legislator for accepting the role and pledged to work closely with him to restore the club’s competitiveness and reputation.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Oscar Kipchumba Sudi for accepting to serve as our patron and for gracing today’s occasion. His leadership, commitment, and support will be vital as we chart a new path for Muhoroni Youth FC.”
The appointment arrives at a critical juncture for the club, which has been facing significant challenges over the past year.
In May 2025, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee sanctioned Muhoroni Youth for alleged match manipulation, resulting in their relegation from the National Super League to the FKF Division One.
The decision dealt a heavy blow to the team, which was once a strong contender in Kenya’s top-tier league and had previously lifted national titles.
Oscar Sudi as New Club Patron
Oscar Sudi’s appointment is expected to inject renewed hope and political goodwill into the club.
A vocal and influential figure in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Oscar Sudi has been known for his active involvement in community development initiatives.
His recent visits to Muhoroni and surrounding areas, where he engaged with local leaders and youth groups, signaled his growing interest in grassroots sports and football development.
Speaking during the unveiling, Sudi expressed his commitment to supporting the club’s revival and empowering young talent in the region.
“Muhoroni Youth FC has a rich history and a passionate fan base. My goal is to work closely with the management, players, and community to rebuild this team and ensure it once again competes at the highest level.”
Muhoroni Youth, founded in 2003, enjoyed a steady rise through the ranks of Kenyan football, culminating in a stint in the Kenyan Premier League.
The club earned respect for its competitive spirit and ability to nurture local talent.
However, recent years have been turbulent, marked by financial difficulties, governance challenges, and ultimately, the FIFA disciplinary action that led to them being relegated to the third tier of Kenyan football.
The appointment of a high-profile patron such as Sudi is seen as a strategic step to restore stability and attract the resources necessary for rebuilding.
Historically, political figures have played influential roles in Kenyan football clubs, often providing financial backing and mobilizing support from both private and public sectors.
For the Kapseret MP, this new role represents an opportunity to make a tangible impact on sports development while leaving a lasting legacy in Muhoroni and beyond.

The coming months will be critical in translating today’s historic announcement into meaningful progress for the club and its loyal fans.
Kenyan Teams with Politicians as Patrons
Gor Mahia, Kenya’s most decorated football club, has long enjoyed the backing of Azimio leader Raila Odinga. Odinga, a self-proclaimed Gor Mahia supporter, has provided political goodwill and occasional financial assistance over the years.
His association with the club has helped maintain its high profile both locally and internationally, particularly during continental campaigns.
Another of Kenya’s football giants, AFC Leopards, has previously enjoyed the support of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Mudavadi, who has deep roots with the club, served as a patron during his earlier political career and is still recognized by fans as a key figure in its history.
Murang’a Seal, one of the newer clubs making waves in the top flight, recently drew attention after Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was unveiled as its patron.
Nyoro’s involvement has been credited with boosting the club’s profile and helping secure resources that have contributed to its rapid rise through the ranks.

Kakamega Homeboyz has benefited from the patronage of Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, who has actively supported the club in its quest for domestic and continental success.
The governor’s involvement has helped the club secure infrastructure support and logistical assistance, particularly in hosting major matches at Bukhungu Stadium.
