A Kenyan film, Kash Money, has ranked among the top ten shows on Netflix in major cities in Africa, less than a month after its launch.
The film by Insignia Productions has ranked number one in Kenya, number three in Nigeria, and number seven in the one week.

The famous show entails a six-part series that delves into the life of a powerful family, The Njenga Family, after the mysterious passing of the family patriarch, Joe Njenga.

The drama unfolds as the family grapples with loss coupled with greed for inheritance and power.

At the same time, the film explores the themes of betrayal, greed, and family break up in pursuit of power.
‘Kash Money is primarily set up in urban Nairobi to depict the life of the city, coupled with Nairobi’s informal settlement to showcase how characters from different backgrounds are driven by greed, betrayal, and hunger for power.

It features renown figures in the industry including Sanaipei Tande, and Joey Muthengi, and rising actresses including John Sibi Okumu, Amara Tari, Lenana Kariba, Makbul Mohamed, Morris Mwangi, Deddan Juma, Oliver Litondo, Ronnie Kariuki, and Anastaciah Liz Wamoro.
The movie is produced and directed by seasoned directors Phill Bresson and Grace Kahaki.
Speaking on the theme of the film, Kahaki stated that it aims to show how wealth can destroy families and relationships.
Director speaks on inspiration behind the film
“Kash Money is an African tale. It is relatable because we want to talk about the importance of family and how money can destroy relationships when there’s no structure in place,” stated Kahaki.
Speaking on the cast, the producer stated that they made a conscious decision to bring on board both industry legends and upcoming artists.

“We worked with a diverse mix of upcoming actors and industry legends! It was a long process, but we believe we ended up with the perfect ensemble. We are honored that our cast chose Insignia Productions,” added Kahaki.
The film premiered on Netflix on January 31, 2025.
