Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones has called out a Kenyan journalist for undermining Kenyan music genres Arbantone and Gengetone.
The journalist known as John Mosh Muchiri gave his two cents on the two genres stating that both genres will receive a significant amount of attention on the local airwaves but would not stand the test of time on international platforms.
“My opinion remains the same. Both genres are only good for the local market to flood the airwaves, but cannot hold water in international platforms,” stated John.
Khaligraph Jones urges journalists to also think globallyÂ
He added that thinking these genres will reach international markets is a dream and that foreign artists will keep coming to Kenya to collect millions while artists of these genres curtain raise for them for paltry amounts.

“If you think these two genres will compete in the international market, just be ready to receive more international acts in Kenya who will continue coming to collect millions, while you curtain raise for them for less than Ksh 500,” added the journalist.
In response, Khaligraph asked the journalist in the same vein when he would work for an international company.
“And when will you go international bro, when will you become a journalist for TMZ or those other international platforms?” stated Khaligraph.
Journalist’s advice to Arbantone and Gengetone artists
He also asked him whether international standards apply to artists alone, urging him to think globally.
“We also need you to go international or does it only apply to artists? You have to think global now, you have been a local journalist for too long, 2025 is your year,” added the rapper.

The journalist advised Arbantone and Gengetone artists to get more numbers online and once they do they should rebrand their music.
“Arbantone and Gengetone artists, your online numbers will help you get the attention of most international platforms. When you do, hit that creative voice inside and do magic. Follow international trends,” said John.
