Samsung Adds Kiswahili and Amharic Languages in Its System Device & Keyboard

Samsung has expanded language support to include Kiswahili and Amharic in its devices to improve accessibility for millions in East Africa.

The device will allow users to switch their system and keyboard language to Kiswahili or Amharic through their device settings.

“The #GalaxyS25 Series is a true AI companion, making your daily life easier and more practical. With improved and localized user experience, by providing language support in Kiswahili,” Samsung announced.

The tech company seeks to bridge the language barrier by incorporating various languages into its devices, making technology more accessible and user-friendly for non-English speakers.​

Samsung Adds Kiswahili and Amharic Languages

Kiswahili and Amharic are widely spoken in East Africa, with Kiswahili serving as a lingua franca for over 100 million people.

Samsung says adding these two languages allows more users to interact with their devices in their preferred language. 

“Samsung Electronics is committed to innovation that empowers communities. By adding Kiswahili and Amharic language support, we are taking a significant step toward bridging the digital divide and fostering greater inclusion,” Samsung said.

How to Switch to Kiswahili or Amharic

Further, Users can now navigate their devices by utilizing the available preferred languages. If you own a Samsung Galaxy phone, here are some steps on how to switch to Kiswahili or Amharic.

To Change the System Language:

1. Open Settings.
2. Go to General Management.
3. Tap Language & Region, then select Language.
4. Tap Add language and choose your preferred language.
5. Set it as default or move it to the top of the list.

To Change Keyboard Input:

1. Open Settings on General Management.
2. Select Samsung Keyboard under Keyboard list and default.
3. Tap Languages and types, then Manage input languages.
4. Download and enable your desired language.
5. Switch between languages by holding the spacebar or tapping the globe icon.
