Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has advised Kenyan artists to work hard like Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz.
Taking to his Instagram account, Salasya urged Kenyan artists to spend more time in the studio and produce as many songs as possible.
“Diamond has recorded over 1000 songs some have picked some haven’t. I want to ask Kenyan musicians to work hard. Watoe ngoma mingi (they should produce more songs) and they should work more to compete more and to spend more on their time in studios producing songs and quality songs,“ said Salasya.
He also called out Kenyan artists for losing focus as soon as their songs hit saying they digress soon after and begin chasing clout.
Salasya commends consistent Kenyan
“My research has shown me msanii wa Kenya akisha vuma kwa song moja (when a Kenyan Artist produces one hit song) he relaxes and starts to clout chase,” added Salasya.
He went on to name some of the Kenyan artists that have been consistent in producing songs which he said has made them gain international recognition.

“Congratulations Bien, Octopizzo, and Khaligraph Jones, they are ever producing songs, and that is the reason they have gained international respect,” added Salasya.
Salasya gave an example of how consistency applies to him as a politician urging Kenyan artists to stop seeking sympathy.
“As a politician, I can’t just sit at my comfort after winning an election. I must now compete with other MPs in service delivery and remain relevant. Wasanii tutoe ngoma kalikali tuache kutafuta sympathy (artists should produce music and stop seeking sympathy),” said the MP.
Mamito response to Salasya
The lawmaker has however faced backlash from Kenyans as they came out to defend Kenyan artists.

Comedian Eunice Mamito responded to Salasya urging him and his fellow leaders to do their job and stop being TikTokers as well. She also defended artists saying they need to create content to be able to finance the production of their music.

“Kenyan musicians are talented Tiktokers which helps them boost their streams, but they need more support to be able to produce more music. They also need investors to produce good music and videos,” said Mamito.
The comment comes as Diamond Platinumz faces the heat from Kenyans for failing to perform at the Furaha City festival, despite being in the country.
The artist has not yet revealed the reason behind his failure to show up at the event where he was scheduled to perform alongside his fellow Tanzanian artists; Ryvanny and Zuchu.
The event was held on December 7, 2024, at the Nairobi Polo Club.
