At least thirty people were arrested on the night of Monday, August 19, for urinating on the streets and walls in Nairobi CBD.
Officials from the environment department in Nairobi County led by Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria staged the operation to arrest individuals urinating and littering various streets in Nairobi CBD.
Mosiria said the team conducted the crackdown to arrest individuals committing the offences to serve as an example for the rest.
“Anyone caught urinating in the streets of Nairobi will be arrested and face legal action. Tonight, 30 people have been apprehended in the CBD and will appear in court,” said Mosiria.
He explained that Nairobi County has established enough toilet facilities in different streets where residents can relieve themselves while in the CBD.
Besides, Mosire said individuals can branch into a hotel and relieve themselves in the hotel’s toilet instead of doing it in public places.
“We are taking action against those who urinate in public places because we have public toilets available all over Nairobi County. There are also hotels with restrooms, so if you are an adult and you go to a corridor and relieve yourself there, whether it’s urination or defecation, it is damaging to the environment,” he said.
“We will not tolerate this; we will take legal action and ensure that everyone is taken to court as a lesson to others.”

Nairobi to Open More Toilets & Dumping Areas
Mosire said the County is determined to restore order and dignity, adding that the department will also target those littering and dumping garbage.
He revealed that the County will open more dumping areas and restrooms to allow residents relieve themselves.
“We would want to see some of these areas run even at night to help those operating that time. They will be spread all over,” he said.
He urged residents to report illegal dumping activities, adding that those responsible will also face severe penalties.
Mosire and his team have gone round the streets and estates of Nairobi to ensure the businesses and residents maintain good working environments.
