At least 6 (six) people have been confirmed dead and eight others severely injured after being hit by a car escorting William Gabula Nadiope IV to the Bugembe Cathedral in Jinja for his royal wedding ceremony.
King Wiliam Gabula Nadiope IV of the Busonga Kingdom in Uganda was on Saturday, November 18 on his way to tie the knot in a highly anticipated wedding when the incident happened.
Busonga North police spokesperson Michel Kasadha while confirming the incident stated that the car went off the road and knocked six people who were waving to the King’s convoy.
“Traffic police of Kamuli are investigating a fatal accident in which six people died on the spot and eight others were injured at Nawantumbi trading center along Kamuli Jinja road,” read part of the Police statement.
“The incident involving a super custom vehicle registration UAZ742U, occurred about 20 Kilometers from Kamuli where part of the royal team departed heading to Jinja,” the statement further reads.

Notably the fanfare excitement saw several Ugandans stand along the roads waiting to catch a glimpse of the Kyabazinga’s (King) before the accident.
Events Leading to the Accident
In a statement the Ugandan police confirmed that the driver of the customed car was trying to avoid a collision with a taxi that was coming towards them.
“The motor vehicle which was part of the Kayabazinga royal wedding team convoy lost control and rammed into roadside viewers,” confirmed the police
Further, the police confirmed that eight others are receiving treatment for injuries in various health facilities as investigations into the matter take off.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to Kamuli General Hospital Mortuary.
“The bodies were taken to Kamuli General Hospital Mortuary for postpartum and the victims were taken to different health facilities pending investigations,” read the statement.
Likewise, the police while reporting the incident noted that the Toyota car was part of the King’s convoy.
Royal Wedding in Busoga
Notably, in the Buganda Kingdom, Busoga is one of Uganda’s most prominent traditional kingdoms where William Gabula Nadiope IV hails.

The royal wedding, held at Christ’s Cathedral in Jinja City, was a grand affair attracting prominent political figures, cultural leaders, and royalty from not just Uganda but from far and wide.
The groom traveled from Budhumbula to Bugembe in Jinja for the formal nuptial.
One of the prominent persons who attended the royal wedding was Museveni’s son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba alongside his spouse Charlotte Kainerugaba.
Other guests included Kings and Queens of the Buganda kingdom.
