Kenyan activist Hussein Khalid has raised concerns over the missing body of John Ogutu in the mortuary, a Kenyan who was shot dead on 29 October in Tanzania.
According to reports, Ogutu’s body was believed to have been taken to Mwananyamala Mortuary, but when his colleagues visited the facility after the incident, they were allegedly informed that only two bodies were present, and Ogutu’s was not among them.
Before the Tanzania general elections, opposition leaders, including Tundu Lissu, were arrested and charged with treason; hence, unfair representation during the election caused nationwide unrest, especially in urban areas like Dar es Salaam
This led to the destruction of property, injuries, and fatalities. Eyewitnesses and local activists claim that security forces used live ammunition in some areas to disperse crowds. It was during this period of unrest, in the Ubungo area of Dar es Salaam, that the Kenyan national John Okoth Ogutu was reportedly shot and killed on 29 October 2025.
