Members of the Akorino community have asked President William Ruto to allocate them a 10 percent quota during government recruitments.
Speaking on Sunday, June 9 during the Akorino National Prayer Conference, one of the leaders stated that the Akorino, being a large community, has encountered challenges in government recruitments.

The leader explained that many Akorino youth are compelled to remove their turbans, known as “kilemba,” to seek employment.
“We are numerous and have been seeking your assistance. Please refrain from dismissing anyone, but during recruitment, allocate 10% to us. Out of every ten hires, employ one Akorino and nine others,” the leader expressed.

He clarified that Akorino individuals do not resort to legal action if they fail to secure job opportunities but instead remove their turbans and compete as ordinary citizens.
“We do not resort to courts; if we fail to secure a job, we simply remove the ‘kilemba.’ Assist us with the graduates present here. We also urge Governor Susan Kihika to support us,” he stated.

Akorino Shun Early Campaigns
The leader highlighted that the Akorino community supported Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government and emphasized the need for assistance during his tenure and beyond, planning for 2032.
However, they urged Ruto to ensure peace within the Kenya Kwanza government and direct politicians to halt early succession campaigns, prioritizing development.
“Request them to cease campaigns; let them commence after your service. This government needs time to progress,” he urged.

Furthermore, the leaders expressed gratitude to President Ruto for following in the footsteps of the first President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, who supported the Akorino community.
“We appreciate your support for the Akorino; everything we receive is through your assistance and that of the DP,” he expressed.
Employment for Educated Youth
The leader highlighted that, in the past, the community prioritized education for their children over land, cattle, or money. However, despite the education, Akorino youth struggle to secure employment, prompting a plea for the President’s assistance.
“We face a challenge; many of our youth have not been able to secure government positions. When recruiting police officers, KDF, and other positions, please consider our children,” he requested.

He also requested permission for Akorino soldiers to train, march, and work while wearing their turbans, reflecting their identity.
“As a nation, we appreciate your efforts and contributions to international job opportunities. As Akorino, we request consideration for such opportunities,” the leader concluded.
He stated that the Akorino community supports government projects such as affordable housing, online opportunities, TVET institutions, and environmental conservation.
