Kenya’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Netherlands and former State House Comptroller Lawrence Lenayapa has passed away.
Lenayapa was reported to have passed away on Thursday, February 28, morning.
He passed away at the age of 59. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
Ambassador Ukur Yattani announced his passing in a statement, sending his condolences to the family of Lenayapa.
“My condolences to the family of Amb Lawrence Lenayapa following his passing on this morning. May Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace and give solace to the family,” Ukur Yattani said.
Ruto Mourns Ambassador Lenayapa
At the same time, President William Ruto eulogized the former State House Comptroller as a dedicated public servant.
He described Lenayapa as a dedicated public servant adding that the country was at a huge loss.
“My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ambassador Lawrence Lenayapa who has passed away. The country has lost a dedicated public servant.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and their loved ones at this time. Rest In Peace, Lawrence,” stated Ruto.

The Life and Career of Lenayapa
Lenayapa held the position of comptroller from 2013 to 2018, after being appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Also, he served as the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources before being appointed as Kenya’s ambassador to the Netherlands in 2018.
In 2020, he garnered attention for writing a letter to the International Criminal Court (ICC), expressing opposition to the proposed candidates list for the prosecutor position.
In his role as State House comptroller, Lenayapa prioritized his focus on Kenya’s big Four developmental agenda of the Jubilee administration.

The Big Four Agenda focused on improving developments in Manufacturing, Universal Healthcare, Housing and Food security.
He was also in charge of the financial operations and managing the overall functions of State House. This included various aspects such as finances, transportation, security, communication, catering, and general administration.
In the Netherlands, he served the dual role of being the Permanent Representative of Kenya to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and headed Kenya’s delegation to various international organizations within the country.
Throughout his career, the seasoned civil servant held roles as a District Commissioner in both Baringo and Kiambu.
