COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli is a new parent in town after one of his wives, Mary Kilobi sired a child for him.
In an interview with Daily Nation, the 40-year-old journalist explained why she kept her pregnancy out of the public limelight.
“But also, why would I put it out there? This journey was personal to us. We wanted to protect it from outside noise and speculation,” Kilobi said.
At the same time, Kilobi clarified that she did not take a sabbatical due to her pregnancy.
“I took a sabbatical in June, but it was not because of that. I enjoyed the peace that came with stepping away from the public eye. Now I am on maternity leave, but I will be back soon,” Kilobi explained.
Kilobi Welcomes Baby Boy
Kilobi also clarified that she has not undergone any medical procedures to conceive a child during her seven-year journey of waiting, expressing her happiness and gratitude for finally having a child after longing for one her whole life.
Mary revealed that she named her child Atwoli Junior after the father.

Atwoli in a past interview revealed that he first met Kilobi in 2005 when she was working at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).
The COTU Secretary General had been invited there for an interview and insisted on meeting her after hearing about a Kenyan girl working there.
How Mary and Atwoli Met
They exchanged contacts and met again in 2016 when Mary returned to Kenya
Their relationship flourished, and they started living together at Atwoli’s residence in Kajiado County.
In June 2018, Atwoli sent a delegation to Mary Kilobi’s parents in Kavula village, Bumula Sub-County, to fulfill the Luhya traditional marriage formalities. They officially got married in August 2018 and have been living together since then.
Currently Mary Kilobi works with Standard Group Limited as a news Anchor/ Reporter with KTN.

Before Joining KTN, Mary worked as a Producer/Editor/ Anchor with Uganda Broadcasting corporation (UBC) for four years.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Literature and Kiswahili) from Makerere University.
Mary is an Author of a Kiswahili teaching book ‘Jifunze Kiswahili’ that is currently sold in major bookshops in Uganda and Congo. Besides being an author she is also a motivational and inspirational Speaker.
