Embakasi East MP Babu Owino publicly lectured political analyst and Linda Mwananchi supporter Abigael Gikonyo, popularly known as Abbie Zuena, during a gathering at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi on September 13, 2026.

“I have seen you, Abby, but be a good person; we do not want mischief here,” Babu told Abbie during the event.

The remarks came during a Linda Mwananchi mega rally in Nairobi, where Babu addressed supporters of the political movement.

Abbie Zuena has been associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and is a vocal defender of Babu, who publicly supported his political ambitions.

She has participated in Linda Mwananchi events, including facing violence at a Homa Bay rally earlier in 2026.

Abigael Gikonyo has since posted a message appearing to respond to the controversy involving Babu Owino.

She said: “Don’t ask me what I have done to our incoming Governor of Nairobi, Babu Owino, but we keep it moving.”

Why Babu Owino Lectured Abbie Zuena

Abbie Zuena spoke during the September 11, 2026 Linda Mwananchi gathering at Jacaranda Kayole, where she addressed the movement’s political plans and its leaders.

She said supporters were at the gathering to engage leaders including Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino and James Orengo.

Zuena said Linda Mwananchi would establish a political party and called on its supporters to unite under one party to advance what she described as the interests of the country.

She proposed Babu Owino and Orengo for party leadership positions, while calling for Sifuna to be the presidential candidate.

Zuena urged the supporters to move forward together under the proposed political arrangement.

“We are also here to talk to our leaders, Sifuna, Babu Owino, Orengo.  Linda Mwananchi is going to bring a party. And we, as supporters of Linda Mwananchi, want to belong to one party that will fight for the interests of the country. Right?   Give Babu the party leader position, give Orengo the party leader position, give Sifuna the presidential candidate position, and let us move forward. Right?”

Babu Owino’s Remarks Spark Backlash

Babu Owino’s remarks drew mixed reactions online, with some supporters criticizing Babu Owino for publicly addressing Abbie Zuena during the rally.

An X user, Muthoni Wa Muthomo, described the incident as unfortunate, arguing that publicly calling out Abbie could expose her to hostility from supporters.

She also said Abbie had previously supported Babu and called on him to apologize.

“This is very unfortunate from a leader of the caliber of Babu Owino. Saying this about Abbie Zuena on the mic for all your supporters to hear is putting a target on Abbie’s back. Remember Abbie almost lost her life in Homa Bay; imagine what would happen if Abbie met these same supporters after this kind of carelessness,” she said.

Billy Ojwang also defended Abbie, recalling her previous public support for Babu during periods when he faced criticism.

Ojwang said Abbie defended Babu when others tried to damage his reputation, arguing that political disagreements should not erase past loyalty.
