Dagoretti North Member of Parliament (MP), Beatrice Elachi, has mourned the loss of her son, Elvis Murakana Namenya, who died after a car accident.
During a memorial mass at the Holy Trinity Church in Kileleshwa, Elachi remembered her son as a sports enthusiast with an introverted personality.
“God blessed me with Elvis at a tender age in my life; he is one of my youngest sons,” Elachi recalled.
Elvis Murakana Car Accident
Elachi explained that the cause of her son’s untimely passing was a car accident. In her tribute, the former Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly narrated that Elvis had left their house to “run an errand with his friends”.
On his way back, she adds, his car suffered a tire burst which caused the would-be grisly accident.
Upon arriving at the hospital, she narrates, her instinct told her that her son would not make it. However, she chose not to speak a word and waited for direction from the doctors.
“Elvis left the house to run an errand on his way back; he got a tire puncture,” she said.
“Young people did not know that when such an ordeal happens, they are supposed to hold on to the steering until the car stops,” she stated, while cautioning youthful drivers against applying emergency brakes after a tire burst.

Elachi Advises Parents
The member of parliament took the opportunity to advise parents on how to raise the current generation.
“Parents must understand that this generation sorts out their challenges alone, they only come to you when there is a crisis,” she said.
In her address, Elachi urged the youth to prioritize safety and learn emergency precautions, especially when faced with situations like her son’s accident.
“Elvis’ life and his story will be a testimony for me. The younger generation must learn and change,” she concluded.
She advised parents to pray for the current generation “because they need guidance more than ever”.

Siblings Recall Fond Memories
On their part, his siblings Kelvin and Jemina recalled fond memories that they shared with Elvis before his death.
They remembered Elvis as a joyful and loving person, always finding ways to bring joy and happiness to the family.
His nephews also praised him as “the most loving uncle they had”, adding that his death was a blow. However, they promised to hold on to the good memories they shared with him.
“I am a conflicted man, my entire being reminds me that this was not what I had planned. I planned to attend his graduation, go for a dowry negotiation ceremony, and become part of the wedding committee,” his grandfather said.
