Bien-Aimé Baraza is a Kenyan singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as a member of the renowned Afropop band Sauti Sol.
He co-founded the group in 2005 while at Upper Hill School. It was initially an a cappella group called Voices in the Light.
After recruiting Polycarp Otieno, a guitarist, commonly known as Fancy fingers, they renamed the group Sauti Sol.
Educational Background
Bien was born and raised in Kilimani, Nairobi, Kenya, on December 28, 1987.
He attended St. Nicholas Primary School in Kilimani, and then he went to Upper Hill High School for his secondary education, where he met his future bandmates.
In 2005, he did his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and later he went to United States International University (USIU) in Nairobi, Kenya, where he studied Journalism and Media Studies.
In 2011, he graduated from university.
Family
Bien is currently married to Chiki Kuruka, who was born in East London in the United Kingdom.
Chiki is a wellness advisor, fitness trainer, presenter, and choreographer. They got engaged on February 28, 2019, and got married on March 6, 2020, in a Civil Union at the Attorney General’s office, followed by a wedding celebration at Pallet Café in Lavington.
Their wedding cost 3000 US Dollars, which is equivalent to 300,000 Kenya Shillings.
Chiki is also Bien’s manager.

Career with Sauti Sol
Aime co-founded Sauti Sol in 2005, alongside Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi, and Polycarp Otieno.
The band’s name, Sauti Sol, which means “voices in the sun”, was formed after the initial group Voices in the Light added guitarist Polycarp.
Jahmby Koikai, also known as Fyah Mama, was Sauti Sol’s first-ever manager, and she played an important role in the early stages of the band’s music journey.
Sauto Sol paid tribute to KoiKai after her passing in 2024 by spotlighting the impact she had in shaping their journey.
They released their debut studio albums, Mwanzo in 2009, Sol Filosofia in 2011, Live and Die in Afrika in 2015, African Sauce in 2019, and Midnight Train in 2020, after signing with Penya Records.
Bien has been a central figure in Sauti Sol, contributing his songwriting skills to many of their hits.
Solo Music Journey
In 2021, he began forging his own path as a solo artist, releasing singles like Bald Men Anthem, Inauma, Coming Home, Reset Rewind, and Mbwe Mbwe that have done very well.
His solo work often features acoustic and Afro-R&B vibes, with lyrics that address themes such as love, heartbreak, identity, and society.
In May 2024, he released his debut solo album, Alusa, Why Are You Topless. This album marked his full-length solo project.
Some standout tracks in this album include My Baby ft Arya Starr, Lost for Words, Ma Cherie, and many more.

He has done some powerful collaborations with both Kenyan and international artists like Adenkule Gold, Fally Ipupa, Rayvanny, Bensoul, Darassa, and Arya Starr, among others.
Bien is also known for his activism; he uses his platform to advocate for social issues like mental health and social justice.
He is also known for his signature bald head, which he has embraced as part of his personal brand.
Bien, being celebrated for his charisma, songwriting prowess, and activism, has further cemented his place in the music industry through his thriving solo ventures.
Awards
His solo career also brought him recognition, including several awards.
In the 2025 Trace Awards, he was named the Best Artist in Eastern Africa in the 2024 Basata Music Awards, Tanzania. His collaboration with Mbosso on Komosava won Best African Song, Pulse Music Video Awards, Kenya, 2024. He was named Male Video of the Year with his hit song My Baby.
