The Cabinet has recognized that the government’s interventions on lowering the cost of food have begun bearing fruit with prices of basic commodities going down significantly.

Moreover, President William Ruto while speaking during a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, April 19 at State House Nairobi stated that the Cabinet notes with satisfaction that the interventions have brought down the price of maize meal to an average of Sh155 from a high of Sh230.
The cabinet expressed optimism that food prices will keep dropping due to the ongoing rains and the arrival of imported maize in the country last week.

The cabinet meeting echoed the government’s policy of subsiding production and not consumption. They lauded the continued provision of affordable farm inputs, including subsidized fertilizer countrywide.
The cabinet further highlighted that Kenya will soon become self-sufficient in food due to the enhanced production coupled with the government’s strategic policy measures.

Nonetheless, the cabinet also expressed concern in the rising cases of road accidents in the country.
As such, it has directed the police and the National Transport and Safety Authority to deal with the recklessness on the roads that has led to loss of lives.
In addition, the cabinet considered other issues including the ratification of the resolutions of the 67th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, approval of the Fisheries Policy and the adoption of the resolutions of the East African Community Council of Ministers that seeks to enhance integration in the region.
