A police officer accused of shooting a United States (US) Embassy staffer named Anthony Njomo has been released on Ksh 300,000 bail pending charges.
The officer identified as Dennis Mwai Irungu, was granted bail at Kiambu Law Courts by the principal magistrate Wanjiru Njuguna on the 19th, June 2024.
According to the Principal Magistrate, the police officer is not at any risk of interfering with evidence or leaving the country if released.
”There’s no indication that the respondent is a flight risk or that you would in any way interfere with the witnesses If released on cash bail of Ksh 300,00 with two contact persons the matter shall be mentioned on the 24th of June,” said the magistrate.
Police Cop Released on Bail
The matter is set to be mentioned again on the 24th of June ,2024 to confirm status.
Additionally, the file has been forwarded to the homicide division in Nairobi for further clarifications.

Dennis Mwai Irungu was accused of shooting an electrical engineer working with the US embassy during a scuffle outside a club in Kiambu town.
Anthony Njomo who was not part of the commotion was shot as he witnessed in a scuffle between two groups that started inside the club and extended outside on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Consequently, the incident led to the identification of two suspects identified as Nason Kiteme and Joseph Njenga and their case is pending investigation.
Kiambu police commander Michael Muchiri had confirmed the arrest of Dennis whose gun had been taken away from him.
David Njomo’s Family Seeks Justice
This judgement comes after, the deceased’s family requested the police to leave no stone unturned and provide justice for their son’s death.

In addition, the family spokesperson David Njomo, asked the detectives to conduct thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.
“We don’t know whether it was by design, we have more questions than answers. We hope that at some point we will get these answers,” David added.
