Homicides detectives from the Directorate Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters are probing the killing of an electrical engineer who was working with the US Embassy in Nairobi.
The deceased named Anthony Njomo was shot outside Quickin Lounge in Kiambu Town on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

Kiambu Police Commander Michael Muchiri confirmed the arrest of the main suspect accused of shooting Anthony Njomo killing him instantly outside the club.
The suspect is said to be a police officer and the firearm suspected to have discharged the killer bullet has also been recovered.

“We can confirm that amongst the three individuals, all male, there is a serving police officer. The firearm has also been retrieved from the officer. It is suspected that this firearm could have fired the fatal shot,” the Commander said.
Kiambu Shooting CCTV Footage
In CCTV footage captured outside the club on Sunday at around 2:45am, Njomo is seen standing next to a container outside the club.

Afterwards, a group of ten people are captured fighting outside the club.
One man was then pushed into a car with others hot in pursuit.
One of those involved in the fight then draws a gun before firing and hitting Njomo who was standing by witnessing the event.
He is seen falling down before the shooter and the other parties involved ran away from the scene.
Njomo was left lying outside the container where marks of the bullet that killed him are still visible.

Two Suspects Arraigned
Meanwhile, the two suspects in the shooting incident will be remanded for ten days while detectives continue with investigations.
Nason Kiteme and Joseph Njenga are said to have been part of two groups involved in the disagreement outside the club before Njomo was shot.
The two were arraigned in court and the detectives filed an application for the court to grant them 21 days to complete investigations. The court, however, granted them 10 days.
“Based on the gravity of the offence, the nature of the investigations conducted with reference to this nature of offence, I direct that the respondent shall only be detained for ten days during this period the applicant shall proceed and conduct investigations. The matter shall be mentioned after ten days,” the judge said.

Family Demands Justice
According to his family, the deceased was hit by a stray bullet fired following an altercation among some people outside the club.
David Njomo, the family spokesperson said there was an altercation between groups that started inside the club and extended outside the club.
“Ther was some sort of a commotion at the back entrance of the club, but he was across the road facing away from the entrance. There was an altercation of guys who looked like they were fighting. Suddenly, Njomo fell,” said David.
The family asked the detectives to conduct thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.
“We don’t know whether it was by design, we have more questions than answers. We hope that at some point we will get these answers,” David added.
