The Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) has alleged that the government is planning to divert the flight Party Leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will arrive on ahead of his expected return to the country from the United States.
DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala, in a statement on Thursday, August 14, confirmed that Gachagua’s plane is scheduled to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at exactly 12:00 noon.
During his U.S. visit, the former Deputy President met Kenyans in Seattle, Boston, Dallas, Kansas City, and Baltimore, and launched DCP satellite offices in key states, including Texas and Washington.
Malala alleged that the government has hatched a plot to “abduct, intimidate, brutalize, and eventually place him under house arrest—cutting him off from his supporters and denying him the right to address the nation.”
“They did this during his impeachment. He responded by asking his supporters to stand down and protest by singing melodies. But this time round, let the plotters know that the song is different, the rhythm tougher, and we will turn it into a cacophony of defiance. There comes a time when enough has to be enough—and that time is now!” said Malala.
Malala alleges a plan to divert Gachagua’s plane
The DCP Deputy Party Leader further claimed that Nelson Koech, Chair of the National Assembly Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee, “has revealed another calculated provocation: a plan to divert Gachagua’s flight to Mombasa or Kisumu International Airport in order to deny him an opportunity to deliver a much-anticipated address to the nation.”
“This disruptive plan by a paranoid regime will not only disrupt the travel plans of innocent passengers but also risk damaging Kenya’s foreign relations. Our message is simple: we will not be intimidated. If they divert the plane, our supporters in Kisumu and Mombasa will turn those airports into oceans of DCP colours and defiance,” Malala added.

Gachagua cuts short his U.S. tour
The statement comes after Gachagua announced that he had cut short his tour in the United States, days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen stated that he would be summoned to record a statement once he jets back into the country.
The former DP revealed that he cut short his trip because of the upcoming by-elections, where DCP is expected to field candidates.
He further apologized for the inconvenience caused to Kenyans living in the U.S., whom he was supposed to meet, and promised to meet them early next year.
“I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party, DCP, in preparation for the upcoming by-elections in various parts of our country. I am sorry to cut my trip short; my profound apologies to the organizers and Kenyans whom I were to meet; the same has been rescheduled to early next year,” Gachagua stated.
CS Murkomen stated that the former DP will be required to record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) once he returns from his trip.

Murkomen reveals Former DP will record statement with DCI
Murkomen revealed that the DCP Party Leader will record the statement immediately upon arrival in the country over his remarks about the Al-Shabaab terror group, in which he accused President William Ruto of holding a meeting with them while speaking in the U.S.
“I saw another man who sat where you are sitting the other day, disparaging our country and talking about issues of insecurity as if it were a joke. He thinks he is going to parade issues of terrorism in America to get votes.
Because he has said that he has information, that he knows, and that he has an agent who is holding meetings with Al-Shabaab, as soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” Murkomen stated.
However, Gachagua, in a quick rejoinder, said he cannot be intimidated by arrests and vowed not to assist with the investigations.
