Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Monday, September 9, met Members of County Assembly (MCAs) elected under the Azimio la Umoja Coalition amid rumors of a planned impeachment against him.
His meeting with the ward representatives also came one day after he met former Prime Minister and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga at the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi residence in Siaya County.
According to a statement shared after the Monday meeting, Sakaja and the MCAs deliberated on a raft of issues including development plans in the county.
Sakaja vowed to ensure development for all people in the 85 wards in the meeting held at his campaign office in Riverside, Nairobi.
He expressed his confidence that his plans will yield development goals needed for the people of Nairobi while asserting that his administration would work for all people regardless of their political affiliations.
Sakaja also said that he is committed to reaching out to all the elected leaders of Nairobi to ensure their cooperation and synergy in service delivery to Nairobi residents.
Among the leaders present was Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai.
The Governor met MCAs elected under the Kenya Kwanza coalition earlier in the month amid the uncertainties and divisions rocking Nairobi county’s leadership.

In a statement on September 2, Governor Sakaja dismissed rumors of an impeachment plot against him and insisted that he would not be distracted by the reports.
The governor was speaking during the launch of a “Dishi na County” kitchen in Umoja, Nairobi, where he mentioned some of his achievements to tell off the impeachment rumors.
“We have a mandate, and we don’t have time for rumours. Our priority is to work for our people, not to engage in gossip,” he said.
The Governor also took time to address reports that he had been barred from travelling with President William Ruto during his trip to China as had been reported in some quarters.
“Which plane are people talking about? I was supposed to be in Umoja today, not in China. Those are just rumours,” he stated.

The Governor has been at the center of a brewing storm at City Hall that dates back to 2022, barely one year after his election. His relationship with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also fueled the cold war in Nairobi County’s leadership as he has been seen going head-to-head with the second in command publicly.
In the run up to the aborted United Democratic Alliance (UDA) elections earlier in the year, Sakaja was poised to face Gachagua ally and Embakasi North Member of Parliament (MP) James Gakuya in what had shown signs of a fierce battle for the control of the ruling party’s affairs in the city.
His struggles to contain the city’s politics adds to the struggles of past governors in Nairobi including Mike Sonko who saw his term end prematurely by way of an impeachment.
