The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), has taken disciplinary action against Doctor Nancy Wangu Kaguri among several other pharmaceutical practitioners for professional misconduct.
In a statement, PPB announced that it had suspended the license of doctor Kaguri following investigations done by its Enquiries and Disciplinary Committee (EDC).
The doctor was found to have breached privacy after she, as the superintendent of Malibu Pharmacy, authorized the delivery of medication by a rider.
Further, the statement indicated that the complaint against the doctor arose after Malibu Pharmacy authorized the delivery of medication by a rider, who transported the package with an external label containing sensitive patient information.
The information included the recipient’s full name, phone number, house name, and diagnosis.
Additionally, inside the package was an insurance form with an incorrect diagnosis and improper coding.
The committee found the action to be a gross violation of patient confidentiality and professional ethics and as a result, recommended the suspension of the doctor’s license to underscore the seriousness of protecting patient data.

Another Doctor Punished for Public Health Risk
In a separate case, doctor Charles Mukabi Waweru faced disciplinary action for failing to notify the Board about the closure of his pharmacy in Matasia, Kajiado County.
The medic was found guilty of leaving the premises open without a registered pharmacist or pharmaceutical technologist creating significant public health risks.
Therefore, the committee suspended Doctor Waweru’s license for three months, citing negligence in adhering to mandatory closure procedures.
ADVERT
In another ruling, Lovi Lovince Manono, a pharmaceutical technologist, was found guilty of entering into an agreement with a non-professional to establish a pharmacy using his credentials.
According to the poisons board, Manono later transferred control to the unqualified individual.
The EDC determined this act to be fraudulent and a severe breach of professional integrity.
Consequently, Manono’s license was revoked, and he was barred from practising pharmacy for five years.

Pharmacists With Unregistered Premises
On the other hand, Emmanuel Odhiambo Gwassi was penalized for operating a pharmacy in an unregistered premise without proper oversight by a licensed pharmacist or technologist.
The EDC described his actions as reckless and irresponsible, leading to the revocation of his pharmaceutical representative license and a five-year ban from practice.
Caroline Wachera, a pharmaceutical technologist, faced accusations of failing to close a pharmacy properly.
However, evidence showed she had relinquished her business partnership and made efforts to comply with regulations. The committee issued an admonishment letter rather than suspending, recognizing her proactive attempts to resolve the issue.
