Dr. Isaac Kalua Green has been appointed as an Honorary Warden of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) under the distinguished Nation Cadre category, one of the highest recognitions granted to citizens who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment, influence, and impact in environmental stewardship.
In a gazette dated November 21/2025, Kalua’s appointment as a Nation Cadre means that;
In a national mandate of trust, Kalua has earned direct affirmation that his contribution is not localized but it’s now on a national scope, both in relevance and expectation, as the position is usually reserved for individuals whose work, voice, and leadership transcend regional boundaries, and his has.

In serving Kenya at the Highest Level of Conservation, Kalua won’t be working to replace any KWS officer(s), but he will be obliged to complement, strengthen, and elevate Kenya’s conservation mission.
Dr. Isaac Kalua’s role as the Nation Cadre
In his new position, Dr.Kalua will be expected to perform the following duties.
- Support conservation efforts in any part of Kenya
- Mobilize national and international partnerships
- Provide strategic guidance to KWS
- Enhance public understanding and protection of wildlife
- Promote peaceful coexistence between communities and wildlife
- Strengthen policy, advocacy, and national dialogue on conservation
As a recognition of proven leadership, the appointment also serves to acknowledge Dr. Kalua’s lifelong work in decades of action, advocacy, and environmental transformation, reflecting national confidence in his integrity, influence across sectors, ability to inspire and mobilize the public, his global environmental reputation, as well as his unwavering commitment to Kenya’s iconic Heritage.
As a Nation Cadre, Dr. Isaac stands among the few select entrusted with the responsibility of guiding, defending, and elevating Kenya’s wildlife and ecosystems as a symbol of the Heritage’s identity and for future generations.
Dr. Kalua was appointed to this position, along with other officers who will serve in the same roles, for their exemplary performance in their previous posts.

The other 9 appointed Nation Cadres are Levi Byamukama, Marshal Luusa, Mehdi Morad, Neila Balolia, Praful Narshi Lathia, Dr. Rashid A. Aman, Robert M. Kariuki, Shiraz Balolia, and Sophie Kinyua.
In the published list, the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, Cap 376, states that the 10 officers have a role rooted in service, not a status.
“This appointment is not ceremonial. It is a mission assignment — to help protect endangered species, restore habitats, champion conservation legislation, and ensure communities benefit from wildlife resources.”
It also signals that their work is of national consequence, their voice carries national influence, and that their stewardship will now directly support the protection of Kenya’s wildlife across the entire country.
It is a privilege granted only to individuals whose lives demonstrate service, credibility, patriotism, and lasting impact.
