Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris has defended the proposed Adani-JKIA take over.
The MP who was speaking after her flight was disrupted by the ongoing strike at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) advocated for public engagement to educate Kenyans on the benefits of the investment by Adani.
“I represent Kenya in the Pan-African Parliament, we have a sitting starting on Monday we are going early to prepare for the sitting, accreditation and much more.”
“I know there will be a delay, the JKIA gave as a notification, but we still came into the airport. I hope that we will be able to resolve the issues, and I feel sometimes that as government we need to be able to sit and discuss. Kenyans need to understand what is it that the Adani group is going to provide,” she added.
Government to Provide Clear Information on Adani Deal
In her statement, Passaris emphasized the urgent need for the government to provide clear information about the Adani JKIA deal. She urges the government to communicate transparently with the Kenyan public, outlining how the agreement will benefit the population while also addressing the concerns of the affected workers.
The strike has led to significant delays and disruptions at the airport, impacting travelers and raising questions about the future of the airport’s management under the new deal. Passaris’s call for clarity comes amid growing scrutiny and public concern over the implications of the Adani agreement.

Gives Credibility to Adani’s Previous Work
Passaris went on to share her experience of the Ahmedabad Airport in India. The Women Rep said that she has been at the airport several times and that she has witnessed the transformation.
She recalls that four years ago, it was a mediocre airport compared to its status, but it has become a five-star airport since the Adani takeover.
Additionally, she affirms that she has visited areas within Ahmedabad that have also been developed by the Adani Group.
In her statement, she mentioned that the biggest problem facing Kenya and globally is that when a group has a tender or partnership in a given contract, many others are also vying for the same opportunity.
Her final remarks were that the government, through its spokesperson, should explain to the public how much money the Adani Group is investing in refurbishing JKIA, what improvements will be made to the terminals, and whether it will be as good as the one in Dubai.
