As the debate about the looming takeover of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport – JKIA by Adani rages on, a Kenyan student based in Paris now claims that his life is in danger after exposing the contentious deal. Alfred Amenya revealed that an officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations – DCI Special Crime Unit sent a letter to his company in Kenya regarding the JKIA -Adani deal.

While speaking at an X Space online forum dubbed ‘The Citizens Assembly,’ Amenya claimed that an officer named Michael K. Sang wrote to his company, stating that they are investigating computer fraud.

However, Amenya has distanced himself from these allegations.

“My company doesn’t engage in anything online, nor does it engage in any computer activity, it is simply a climate startup,” Amenya said.

The master’s student further claimed that the DCI is using intimidation tactics by asking a colleague who works at his company to record a statement at the DCI headquarters so that they can easily access him since he currently does not reside in Kenya.

The vocal student said that the DCI should stop focusing on him but instead direct their energy to important issues.

Amenya noted his troubles stem from exposing the deal between the Kenyan Government and the Adani group.

He claimed that his life is in danger and the DCI are now looking for people close to him.

The DCI Statement

A statement from DCI read: “The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, pursuant to its mandate, is currently conducting investigations into a case of computer fraud. To facilitate our investigations, kindly but urgently provide us with the following information:

  1. Certified copy of certificate of incorporation
  2. Certified copy of Articles and Memorandum of Association
  3. Names and contact details of registered directors and founders of the company

Also, kindly appoint a competent staff member to record a statement on behalf of the company.”

Leaders voice concern over allegedly JKIA Takeover by Adani

At the same time, opposition leaders, led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, have labeled the takeover a ‘scam’ and called on the government to subject the planned takeover by the Adani Group of India to public participation.

The leaders also questioned why the deal is shrouded in secrecy despite public and stakeholder demands for transparency.

“Of all the Scams this country has faced this Adani Group is a unique one,” Kalonzo said.

On his part, DAP party leader Eugene Wamalwa said that the Adani leadership has failed in countries such as Australia, Srilanka, and India and therefore as Azimio leadership they reject the dubious deal.

The proposed takeover of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by Indian firm Adani Group has taken a fresh twist following concerns raised by India’s Congress.

Indian National Congress General Secretary raises concern

The proposed takeover of the JKIA by Indian firm took a fresh twist following concerns raised by India’s Congress.

Indian National Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh in a statement on September 3, 2024, raised concerns following protests from Aviation workers in Kenya over the takeover.

In addition, the secretary criticized the proposal and termed it as a move that could “convert into anger against India and the Indian Government”.

“This is a matter of grave concern for India, because the non-biological PM’s friendship with Mr. Adani is now globally well known. The protests can therefore easily convert into anger against India and the Indian Government,” said Ramesh.

“The Adani Group’s proposed takeover of the airport in Nairobi, Kenya, has led to widespread protests in the country, with the Kenya Aviation Workers Union calling for a strike to demonstrate its opposition.”

Ramesh cited recent projects by the billionaire group in neighboring countries that led to protests against their respective governments.
