A family of four in Torokiat village, Narok South, has been buried alive in a mudslide triggered by ongoing heavy rains according to police report.
The victims, including two children, a boy and a girl, along with their parents, were buried by the debris inside their house on Monday, April 8, 2024, night.
“It was reported by members of public that due to heavy rain throughout the night, mudslides occurred at unknown time of the night and caused death to 4 residents’ members of the same family at Torokiat Market,” read a police report.
Officers from Torokiat police post visited the scene to begin the process of retrieving the bodies.
In another incident more than 50 passengers who were travelling from Wajir to Nairobi spent the Monday night trapped in flood waters.
This is after a bus they were travelling in was swept by the raging waters at Tula area on Garissa-Mwingi Road, at 2.00 am on Tuesday April 9.
Most of the passengers escaped with no injuries as efforts were made to rescue passengers trapped on the roof of the bus.

All these unfortunate events are as a result of heavy rains that have wreaked havoc in several parts of the country, with the Kenya Meteorological Department putting residents on high alert.
Weatherman’s Alert on Heavy Floods Before Family Disaster
The weatherman advised that rainfall is expected to persist across the country, with particularly heavy downpour anticipated in several regions including the Central Highlands.
Other arears are Western Kenya, Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
“Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods and flash floods. Gusty winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages. Updates on the ensuing weather will be provided promptly,” KMD statement read in part.

Earlier on April 8 Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) announced the closure of Nairobi – Garissa (A3) Road due to flooding at Mororo area between Madogo and Tana River Bridge.
“The increased water has prompted an advisory that the Seven Folks Dams are rapidly filling to near full capacity. The flooding at Mororo has compromised one lane of the road. This poses high safety risk to the road users,” KENHA stated.
The authority said that the road will remain unused until floodwaters subside, and the damaged section is reinstated.
