The family of the late Chief Inspector Walter Nyankieya Nyamato has sought the services of a lawyer to sue the government over the death of his son.
Chief Inspector Walter Nyamato died in the United States in his hotel room a day after he left the country for a mission in Haiti.
According to his father, Philip Nyamato, the government has failed to explain how his son died, lamenting that they buried him on Friday, March 15, without any explanation yet.
The former personal assistant to the Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow failed to join his colleagues for dinner while in the US. Later he was found dead.

Family Raises Question Over the Death of Officer
At the same time, Philip raised questions over the government’s refusal to surrender his son’s death certificate and autopsy report.
He said that Walter was healthy and fine even in Washington and that they did not understand how he passed away and the cause of his death.
“I asked them to give me a provisional report proving what the postmortem indicated. They refused to surrender those documents. Even the death certificate from the US was not given to us,” he said during the late inspector’s burial.
Also, he lamented that when the body of Walter was brought back, police officers refused to allow the family to view it.

“When they brought him back, they told me that the body had been covered and as family we were not allowed to see it. When we finally saw him at the Lee funeral home, I confirmed that that was my son,” he added.
Further, Philip disclosed that the family had been informed that investigations into the matter had been taken over by the US authorities.
He also questioned why his son was in Washington DC when he was supposed to be serving in Haiti.
Mission in Haiti
Some reports indicated that the officer was on his way from or to Haiti, while others say that he was on a training program.
However, Gabow said that he was attending a seminar in the US.
“He was attending a seminar in the US when he was found dead in his room. We will know more,” Gabow said.
The Police did not specify the nature of the mission Nyamato and his team were in the US.
On March 14, 2024, the government declared that Kenya would be sending a reconnaissance mission to Haiti before the planned deployment of police.
The news came after a conversation with the outgoing Prime Minister Ariel Henry and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The head of state further retaliated that Kenya would remain actively involved and that Kenya would not abandon Haiti in their time of need.
