The family of the late National Treasury employee, Evans Chirchir, has revealed his last moments before he disappeared, and his body later found in the morgue.
Through their lawyer, Felix Keaton, they revealed that Chirchir vanished shortly after receiving a phone call from friends who requested a meeting.
“Before he died there were some friends who summoned him and told him that they want to have a meeting with him at Machakos and after that meeting Evans Chirchir disappeared,” he said.
Additionally, the family disclosed that Evans had previously voiced concerns about his safety, revealing that he had received death threats over a multi-million tender worth Ksh 286 million he was involved with at work.
“Evans informed his brother that he was receiving threats, and his life was in danger. The question is, were the threats related to the tendering process,” Keaton said.
“The circumstances surrounding his death are questionable and mysterious. The manner he was killed heinously by the criminals raises eyebrows. It cannot be a coincidence that the issues of tender can be related to the death and as such we know what to speculate at this juncture.”
Evans Chirchir Mysterious Disappearance
The body of Evans Chirchir was found at Machakos level V hospital on Tuesday September 3 days after his absence.
Furthermore, the Exchequer employee was reported missing on Saturday, August 31, after the family realized he had not returned home. They immediately began searching for him.

Machakos Level 5 Hospital Medical Superintendent Daniel Katua confirmed that the body of the deceased was brought to the facility on August 31, 2024.
According to Katua, officers from Kyumbi Police Station positively identified the body based on information provided by the mortuary attendants.
“The police officers recorded the body in our morgue and identified it,” he said.
An autopsy on Chirchir’s body was rescheduled for Thursday, September 5.
“A post-mortem examination was scheduled to be conducted on the body at this facility today. The family, however, instead placed a request for them to have it transferred. When they came here, we told them to come with the police,” Katua added.
“As we speak, the family has obtained permission from Kyumbi police station to transfer the body to a place of their choice, presumably a private mortuary.”

Family Lawyers Filing a Petition
The family’s lawyers, along with some relatives, appeared at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on Tuesday, September 3, to file a habeas corpus—a legal action demanding the release of a person believed to be unlawfully detained.
However, before they could proceed, they were informed of Chirchir’s death, which was later confirmed by the family at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.
“In light of those circumstances, we decided we would not proceed with the habeas corpus application, and we came to the press.
Ours is to inform the entire nation that this is an urgent matter that needs to be investigated expeditiously,” Philip Langat, a counsel of the deceased’s family said.
