The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has launched a training program named “Finya Computer itoe dollar” in line with Kenya Kwanza administration’s resolve to promote uptake of opportunities in the digital economy.
According to a poster shared by the Ministry, the program will target young people in a bid to equip them with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes for digital and online work.
The skills, the Ministry added, will enable them access decent opportunities and make a living from the gig and freelancing economy.
In its post, the Ministry appealed to the youth urging them to take the opportunity.
“The objective of the program is to equip young people with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes for digital/online work to enable them access decent work and earn an income from the Gig & Freelancing Economy,” the poster read in part.
According to the Ministry, the training program will come in two different modules.
The first one named ‘Basic Module’ will provide training in data entry, digital marketing, and virtual assistance while the second, named ‘Advance Module’ will offer skills and knowledge in ‘AI for Graphic Design’.

How to Apply Finya Computer
The program will run between March 4th to 8th from 8am to 5pm every day.
To register, interested candidates will use a link dedicated for the program (NATIONAL ONLINE WORK READINESS SKILLS TRAINING AND MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME (google.com).
Upon logging in, you will be asked to key in information details including full names, gender, ID number, Sub- County of residence and age.
You will then proceed to the second phase of the registration process where all interested persons will be required to select their level of education, their module of choice, and other details including a copy of identification documents.

Additionally, to be eligible, one must prove to be a Kenyan citizen, aged between 18-35 years and proficient in computer skills.
The announcement came on the back of a heated debate within Kenyan spaces about remarks made by President William Ruto regarding opportunities in the digital sector.
A village named Taptengelei in Nandi County became famous suddenly after the President’s assertion that youth in the area were reaping big in dollars by just pressing their computers.
The President has also been insistent on the need to leverage digital opportunities to create employment among the youth in Kenya, stressing that youth will partner with Members of Parliament across the country to construct ICT hubs in each constituency.
