Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has disclosed the total number of tickets sold for the Kenya national men’s football team, Harambee Stars, during their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Gabon at Nyayo National Stadium.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, March 25, Hussein clarified that Nyayo Stadium was not sold out, noting that its available capacity is 22,000 seats.
He stated that out of the 22,000 tickets made available, 15,968 regular tickets—each priced at Ksh300— were sold.
Additionally, 1,331 VIP tickets, priced at Ksh1,000, and 107 VVIP tickets were sold.
Hussein further confirmed that the total number of tickets sold for the Sunday clash was 17,735.
FKF discloses millions collected
He added that revenue from 329 car park slots was collected, bringing the total funds collected for the match to Ksh6,998,497.
“The total number of seats that are in the stadium is about roughly 22,000. That is the information we have in terms of sitting capacity. Regular is about 18,000. The others I think 1,400 is VIP, and we don’t count the VVIP because that is for invited guests,” said the FKF president.
“As per CAF regulations, you are not supposed to sell 100% of the seats, we are supposed to sell slight than that number.”
Mohammed’s statement, however, contradicts an earlier statement made by FKF on Saturday, which claimed the stadium was sold out.
The federation, through its social media pages, had confirmed that all VVIP, VIP, and regular tickets were sold out.
“All tickets for our FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Gabon are officially sold out,” FKF said.
“Your unwavering support means everything! Let’s paint Nyayo red, black, and green this Sunday. Come cheer the team and let your voices be heard—your energy could make all the difference.”

The VVIP tickets, which were priced at Ksh10,000, had only 100 slots available. Perks included secured parking inside Nyayo Stadium.
Harambee Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier clash, with the Kenyan national team’s hopes of securing a spot in the tournament now fading away.

Gabon took the lead early in the match through former Arsenal and Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who struck in the 16th minute.
The Gabon captain doubled his tally in the 52nd minute, silencing Kenyan supporters and putting his team in a commanding position.

Harambee Stars, however, fought back, with captain Michael Olunga reducing the deficit in the 62nd minute.
Despite a late push and several goal-scoring opportunities, the Stars could not find an equalizer.
Following the match, multiple reports emerged of theft and mugging along the roads near Nyayo Stadium.
Additionally, some motorists reportedly lost vehicle parts, such as wipers, side mirrors, and radio antennas, as thieves took advantage of the limited security presence.
Another unfortunate incident occurred at the stadium when Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya was roughed up and forcibly removed by a group of irate football fans.
