Nyamira South Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Florence Obunga said the school principal informed her of the incident at 6:30 a.m.
“We were told that the girl had tried to commit suicide and had been taken to the hospital. We went there with the sub county security team. She had sustained injuries to the head,” said the DCC.
“We later went to the school and broke the news of her demise to the rest of the girls. They are very devastated.”
She also mentioned that police have begun investigations to unravel the circumstances leading to her demise adding that they had informed the girl’s parents about her death.
The DCC said that despite the school having a strong counselling department, it was sad that she did not confide in anyone and tended to keep to herself.
However, at the time of publishing it was still unclear of the circumstances surrounding the motive behind her action.
The student’s death comes amid a rise in suicide cases recently recorded across the country.
