A former Member of Parliament is among five suspects arrested after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered two Isuzu lorries stolen in Murang’a County, in a case involving the theft of a truck belonging to the county.
The DCI identified one of the suspects as Peter Njuguna Gitau, a former Mwea Member of Parliament. He is listed among the five individuals arrested in connection with the alleged theft.
“Following the theft, a meticulous investigation was set in motion, and through intelligence leads, five suspects: Peter Njuguna Gitau, Mark Kinyua, Erick Chege, David Kigo, and Joseph Ndung’u Waweru, the masterminds behind this daring heist, were arrested.”
According to the directorate, detectives from the Operation Support Unit (OSU) recovered the vehicles following investigations into the theft reported in Gatanga on August 16, 2025.
Theft in Gatanga
The stolen vehicles were identified as an Isuzu FVZ with registration number KDQ 845T and an Isuzu FRR with registration number KDL 078W.
“Detectives from the Operation Support Unit (OSU) have recovered two Isuzu lorries that were stolen in Murang’a County.”
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations stated that the lorries were taken in a brazen theft in Gatanga. Following the incident, investigators launched what the agency termed a meticulous investigation.
DCI Recovery in Mombasa
According to the DCI, the suspects later led detectives to Mombasa County after interrogation. The two lorries were recovered in Makupa.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects led detectives to Mombasa County, where the lorries were recovered in Makupa.”

The agency further indicated that both vehicles had been fitted with counterfeit registration plates.
The Isuzu FVZ (KDQ 845T) had been fitted with a fake plate, KDV 449C, while the Isuzu FRR (KDL 078W) was fitted with a counterfeit plate, KCA 505D.
The vehicles have now been recovered and are in the custody of DCI Gatanga, and plans are underway to return them to their rightful owners.
“Meanwhile, the apprehended suspects remain in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” they noted.

Former Mwea MP Peter Njuguna Gitau
The Kenyan Parliament website lists Gitau Peter Njuguna’s page under past members (10th/11th Parliaments, 2007–2013), confirming his role as Mwea MP for The National Alliance/TNA after PNU.
Gitau served as Mwea MP from 2007 to 2013. He ran unsuccessfully as an independent candidate in the 2013 and 2017 elections.
