Ex radio Citizen presenter Joyce Gituro, popularly known as Mama Jakes has landed a new job with the Machakos County Government.
Joyce was sworn in as a public communications chief officer in the county’s Department of Public Communications and E-government on July 1, 2024.
In a post via social media, Joyce shared the news with her fans and thanked God, her family and Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti for entrusting her with the position.
“I have so much to say about this appointment but for now allow me to thank the Almighty God for His mercies that are new every morning, @governorwavinyandeti for believing in me, my dear daughter and two sons for loving me always, my immediate and extended family members for being there and for all my friends for being very patient with me. Indeed, let the Lord lead the way to my new territory,” she said.

In a statement on X, governor Wavinya confirmed Joyce’s appointment alongside two other people.

Joyce will be working alongside Francis Munyambu, Department of Inspectorate and emergency services and Dr. Juliana Ndunge, Department of Sewerage, Sanitation and waste management.
Gituro has succeeded former NTV news anchor Daniel Mule who left to join the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) as the Deputy Director and Head of Public Affairs and Communication.
Joyce Gituro Quits Radio
Prior to her appointment as public communications chief officer, Gituro worked at Royal Media Services for over 15 years, starting as an On-Air Host.
However, over the years she rose through the ranks to become Transmission controller at the RMS-owned station and later on Brand Manager.

Joyce quit radio Citizen in 2018, and later on joined Mediamax Network as head of programs, overseeing six radio stations.
Gituro later joined Radio Jambo in 2020, hosting the Sunday show ‘Injili Jumapili’ (Gospel Sunday). She eventually quit to focus on her business ventures.
