Former nominated senator and Kakamega ODM nominated MCA Godliver Omondi died at the Agha Khan Hospital Kisumu after a short illness.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa confirmed the incident on Monday, November 13 in a statement to newsrooms.
Barasa noted that the former nominated Senator was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit – ICU on Saturday November 11, after suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes but succumbed on 12th November at 6pm.
“I have learned with deep shock the death of honorable Godliver Omondi former Nominated Member of Kakamega County Assembly,” said Barasa.

“Hon. Godliver, who has lived a healthy life until her demise was admitted at Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu after falling sick on Saturday. She was later moved into the Intensive Care Unit on Sunday where she breathed her last today,” stated Barasa.
Former Senator Eulogized
Following her demise, politicians and Kenyans mourned the politician.
“So sad! The family and friends of Hon Godliver Omondi, who served as both a nominated Senator and MCA is in my prayers, following her death. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” stated Senator Boni Khalwale.
Likewise other leaders mourned her while describing her efforts in service delivery in the various positions she held.
Kakamega Governor described late Omondi as the only first woman to be elected as Matungu Sub-County since devolution.
“Hon. Godliver, a staunch member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, will be remembered for brilliantly unseating the premier representative of Kholera Ward to become the first and only woman to be elected in Matungu Sub- County since the inception of Devolved Governments in Kenya,” stated Barasa.
Additionally, according to Barasa, as an MCA, she always championed for the interests of the people of Kakamega County, especially women, youths, and people with disabilities.
“On my behalf and on behalf of Members of the County Assembly, Staff of the County Government of Kakamega and the residents, I send our deepest sympathies to Hon. Godliver Omondi’s family and pray that the Almighty God grants you all the strength to endure this loss. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” stated Barasa.
