Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a warning to leaders responding to Kenyans with arrogance on matters related to the cost of living.
In a statement on Sunday, September 17, Gachagua noted that he was alive to the trend, insisting that public servants should treat Kenyans with respect.
According to him, the arrogance exhibited in the responses to Kenyans complaining about the high cost of living is insensitive.
“You Do Not address your employer with arrogance. Do so with Humility and Decorum. Kenyans, like the rest of the world, are going through difficult Economic times and leaders should address them with Sensitivity and Empathy,” the DP added.
In the statement, Gachagua affirmed that the statements shared by the said leaders do not represent the position of Kenya Kwanza as a government.

Instead, he assured that the government led by President William Ruto is keen on addressing the challenges facing Kenyans including the recent spike of fuel prices.
Further, the second-in command reminded all leaders of the mandate to serve Kenyans with humility and decorum, noting the citizens are the employers.
“I would like to remind them that although the people of Kenya did not employ them directly, they decisively elected H.E President William Ruto, who in turn appointed them Cabinet Secretaries and Advisors,” he added.
David Ndii & Moses Kuria’s Outbursts
Gachagua’s statement came a day after Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria and the Chairperson of the President’s Economic Advisors Council, David Ndii, raised concerns among Kenyans after controversial remarks regarding the prices of fuel.
In a statement on Saturday, September 16, CS Kuria told off Kenyans complaining about the new prices on X.
He noted that the complaints are inconsequential, and that Kenyans should brace themselves for further increments in future.

In a statement that has since gone viral, CS Kuria sarcastically urged Kenyans to drill their own wells and quit complaining about the hikes.
Since the announcement of new fuel prices on Friday, February 15, Ndii has also engaged Kenyans on X confronting them with a reminder that the situation is expected to worsen.
The DP made the remarks after returning home from his one-week trip to Colombia.
Meanwhile, President Ruto who was away during the announcement is still out of the country and is yet to respond to spike in fuel prices.
