Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed why Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki might soon be removed from office.
In an interview with KTN on Monday, January 24, Gachagua claimed that Kindiki could be ousted from the Deputy President position if he fails to ensure that Chief Justice Martha Koome kicked out.

This follows an ultimatum reportedly issued by President William Ruto.
“Mr. Yes Sir has been given the responsibility to ensure that Martha Koome is removed from her position,” Gachagua alleged.

“The President argues that Mount Kenya East cannot hold both the presidency and the Chief Justice position simultaneously.
Since Mr. Yes Sir holds the presidency, and Martha Koome leads the Judiciary, the President has warned him that if Koome is not removed to allow the seat to go to another region, he will lose his job. So, he must make sure Martha Koome is out,” Gachagua claimed.

Gachagua further alleged that the petitions being forwarded to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) are sponsored by Kindiki due to pressure from the President’s ultimatum.
He also claimed that the plans to remove Chief Justice Koome began while he was still in office, but he had resisted the proposal.
“President William Ruto schemed a long time ago to remove Justice Martha Koome as Chief Justice because she refused to be compromised. He shared this plan with me several times and even quarreled with me, accusing me of failing to manage her to align with his interests,” Gachagua stated.

According to the former Deputy President, beyond wanting the Chief Justice role to be allocated to another region, President Ruto also seeks Koome’s removal to influence the entire electoral process, from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to the Supreme Court. Gachagua alleged that Ruto has expressed a desire to replace the entire judicial bench to ensure favorable outcomes for his administration.

Speaking during a church service in Meru County on Sunday, February 23, 2025, Gachagua warned that if Chief Justice Koome is impeached, President Ruto would no longer be welcome in Meru County.
“We are telling you, Mr. President, if you plan with your allies to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome, stay in Nairobi and never set foot in Meru again,” Gachagua said.
