Government Agencies Clash Over Azimio, Sauti Sol Tiff

Two government agencies have taken opposing sides in the tiff between the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party  and the Sauti Sol music band over the unauthorized use of the band’s song in a camping function.

The  Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) maintains that Azimio committed no offence because its leader Raila Odinga  obtained all necessary licences to play both local and international music in their campaign shows and promotional material.

But on the other hand, the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO), says that Azimio failed to obtain synchronization permits that could have allowed them to use songs in campaign promotional audio-visual productions.

Sauti Sol  had threatened legal action against Azimio over the usage of its ‘Extravaganza’  song during the unveiling function of Raila Odinga’s running mate

MCSK CEO Ezekiel Mutua is accusing KECOBO of causing confusion over the matter.

Mutua said the matter in question was not within KECOBO’s domain.

KECOBO had earlier said that Sauti Sol was justified in taking legal action against  the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance and its leadership.
