President William Ruto drew an enthusiastic crowd of more than 17,000 United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots leaders from Nyeri County at Sagana State Lodge on Saturday, sending a clear signal that his influence is growing in the heart of Central Kenya.
The gathering brought together officials elected as polling centre representatives during last week’s UDA grassroots elections.
The event underscored the party’s emphasis on inclusivity, with all six constituencies in Nyeri County strongly represented: Mukurweni sent 1,496 officials, Mathira 2,293, Nyeri Town 1,498, Kieni 3,333, Othaya 3,133, and Tetu 2,692 officials.
Each polling centre contributed 20 representatives, reflecting UDA’s commitment to deep-rooted engagement at the community level.
Ruto Addressing Nyeri County
In his address, President Ruto lauded the officials for their role in strengthening party democracy while linking their work to his broader development agenda.
“In the last three years, we have remained faithful to our Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, and we are proud of what we have achieved.”

Our focus remains on transforming Kenya into a first-world economy through strategic investment in infrastructure, human capital development, quality healthcare, agriculture, industrialisation, and job creation for our youth,” he said.
The President also highlighted UDA’s long-term vision, stressing that the party is evolving into a mass national movement with sustained influence beyond a single election cycle.
“We are building UDA into a party that can champion Kenya’s transformation agenda in partnership with like-minded movements across the country,” he said.
Governor Kahiga Pledges Support
The show of unity was further reinforced by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who, clad in UDA regalia, publicly affirmed his support.

He declared, “My party is UDA, and my President is William Ruto,” signalling consolidation of the party base in the county.
Political analysts say the event demonstrates more than just numbers; it reflects growing grassroots confidence in Ruto’s leadership and vision for Kenya.
What was once considered a challenging region for UDA is now becoming a vibrant hub of political momentum, setting the stage for strategic gains as the 2026 elections draw closer.
