Kenyans will likely no longer be allowed to dance to the controversial Mapangale dance. The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua has strongly criticized the “Mapangale dance” Challenge and has hinted at banning the challenge altogether.
Taking to his X platform, Mutua condemned the challenge that has since gone viral on social media saying that it promotes violence and misogyny.
“I am inundated with complaints about the “Mapangale dance” challenge on TikTok. I have reviewed the clips, and I agree that this kind of content normalises violence and is misogynistic,” said Mutua.
Content creators should be responsible
Mutua went on to state that he is in contact with the Ministry of Interior to ensure that such content does not jeopardise national security. He also urged content creators to use their creativity to inspire hope as opposed to promoting criminal behaviour.
“I am liaising with the relevant authorities, particularly the Ministry of Interior to ensure that such content does not jeopardise national security. In the meantime, we advise content creators to use their creativity to inspire hope and not to promote or glorify criminal behaviour,” stated Mutua.
