Government plans to export National Youth Service – NYS graduates to work abroad. This is according to the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management (SPD) Moses Kuria.
In a statement on Friday, February 2, Kuria said NYS is at the heart of the government’s current Labor Export Program.
“We plan to export NYS servicemen and women overseas. The Labor Export process is underway as we have already begun facilitating the issuing of passports at NYS Headquarters in Ruaraka,” he stated.
Kuria spoke while in a meeting with the National Youth Service (NYS) Recruiting Officers ahead of the countrywide recruitment starting February 5th to 9th.Â
He emphasized the essence of free and fair recruitment processes, expressing the need to adhere to a transparent and a verifiable process.
In the past exercises the recruitment method has been criticized for its shortcomings.

Responding to this, he stated by that the ministry is committed to finding a solution that will guarantee each candidate an equal chance.

“The exercise will be ward-based where we have allocated recruits per ward while considering the population of each ward.”
During the meeting, Kuria was accompanied by Deputy Director General Jamlick Habari and other senior NYS officials.
Kuria reiterated President William Ruto‘s push to create job opportunities for Kenyan youths.
“Kenya is a youthful country. 70% of the population consists of the youth. We need the youth to drive our economic transformation agenda. The Kenya Kwanza Administration is committed to ensure that every young person has an equal opportunity,” the CS stated.Â
Ruto directed the National Police Service, Kenya Defense Forces, Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Forestry Service to recruit 80% of their pool from NYS.
If this is implemented, most of the recruits will have a chance to be absorbed into these institutions upon completion of their training.

Statistics shows that Kenya is a youthful country. This is because 70% of the population consists of the youth.
Requirements to join NYS
Interested candidate must be a Kenyan citizen.
Aged between 18 and 24 years.Â
Additionally, the service stated all the applicants should be residents of the listed counties with a minimum grade of D (plain) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
A police clearance form (good conduct certificate) is a mandatory requirement.
Finally, all applicants are required to be medically fit and ready to undergo vigorous paramilitary training.
