The government has set up an emergency desk at Nyayo House, Nairobi to fast track the replacement of National Identity Cards and personal registration documents lost due to the recent flooding.
Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok made the announcement during a tree planting exercise at the Kenya Meat Institute in Mavoko, Machakos County.
Dr Bitok said that the desk will serve as a centralized location for flood victims to report their lost documents and obtain replacements as quickly as possible.
“We have set up a center at Nyayo House where you can report as an emergency so that those who have lost their documents in the raging floods can replace them in the shortest time possible,” he stated.
However, the government efforts to assist floods victims extends beyond the capital city.
The PS also revealed that the state would establish similar emergency desks across the country to ensure that all affected individuals can replace their lost documents efficiently.

Furthermore, the PS acknowledged the devastating toll of the floods which have led to nearly 300 reported deaths, affected over 286,000 people, displaced over 47,000 households.
He noted that the devastation left many Kenyans without crucial personal identification documents, which are essential for day-to-day activities and transactions
“The flooding has seen many Kenyans lose property as well as personal registration documents that are crucial for day-to-day identification and transactions.”
The PS urged Kenyans to take part in tree planting exercises as a means of mitigating flooding and other weather extremes.
“We will plant 3,000 trees in this area while joining the rest of Kenyans to ensure there are enough tress to help us combat flooding and mitigate the effects of climate change,” said Bitok.
