Several Nairobi Estates will go without water for 24 hours following an emergency shutdown of water supply.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company in a notice on Thursday, December 14, stated that the shutdown is due to leaks at the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline.
Additionally, the utility farm noted that if not repaired, the leaks will lead to major landslides resulting to more damage to the pipeline.
The repair works are scheduled to begin on Friday, December 15, at 7:00 am till Saturday, December 16, at 7:00 am.
“We would like to inform our esteemed customers that there will be an emergency shutdown of the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline on Friday, December 15, 2023, starting 7.00am to December 18, 2023, 7.00am
“The aim of the shutdown is to facilitate repairs of major leaks along the pipeline which if not contained, will lead to major landslides resulting to more damage to the pipeline,” the notice indicated.

Nairobi Estates Affected by the Water Supply Shut Down
Further, the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company stated that during the shutdown, areas along Waiyaki Way road, James Gichuru Road, Ngong Road and Langata Road will experience water supply interruptions.
Also, areas along Dennis Pritt Road, Peponi Road, Kikuyu Road, Naivasha Road, Mbagathi Road and River Side drive will also be affected for the 24 hours.
Likewise, Whole of Lavington area, Kilimani, Westlands, Parklands, Loresho, Kangemi, Uthiru, Karen, Kawangware, Riruta, Langata, Kibera, Dam Estate will not have water supply as repairs continue.
At the same time, Kileleshwa, Nyayo Highrise kibera, Ngumo and Woodly Estates among others in the adjacent areas will not have water supply.

The utility company also indicated that areas around International School of Kenya, Kinanda valley, Kihingo valley and Magnolia will not have water supply during the stipulated time.
City Water and Sewerage Company to Affected Persons
The utility firm asked affected persons to store water in advance or use already stored water for their daily need during the interruption.
Further, they were advised to use their stored water sparingly during the period of interruption.
“Whilst every effort will be made to restore the water supply, we request all customers in the affected areas to use their stored water sparingly during the period of interruption.
“Any inconvenience is highly regretted,” added the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company.
