At least five people died while others are fighting for their lives in hospital after gunmen went on a shooting spree in three incidents in Isiolo and Samburu counties, the National Police Service (NPS) has said.
In a statement, NPS said there were three incidents of stock theft within the county on Sunday, November 10, leading to gun fights between the police and cattle rustlers.
In the first incidents, an unknown number of suspected bandits attacked Bojidare area at around 0230hrs.
NPS said the bandits were armed with assault rifles invaded Manyattas while shooting, and in the process, they stole about 250 cows and 300 goats.
However, officers from the Kenya Police Service (KPS) Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and the National Police Reservists (NPR) trailed and recovered all the 300 goats plus 30 cows.
NPS revealed that two people lost their lives, and three others were injured during the incident.
“The injured have been evacuated to Isiolo District Hospital for treatment, while the deceased handed over to the families for burial according to Muslim rites,” reads part of the statement.
In a second incidents, another unknown number of bandits armed with assault rifles invaded a home in Hola Bule area at about 0035hrs.

3 Killed in Other Incidents
According to NPS, the bandits started shooting, before stealing 19 herds of cattle.

NPS and NPR Officers at the scene established that one man had been fatally shot, while two other persons including an NPR Officer sustained gunshot wounds.
“All the 19 animals have been recovered. The body has been moved to Isiolo County Hospital Mortuary for preservation,” NPS said.
In a third incident, two bandits were fatally shot across River Waso area under Samburu East, and a total of 211 stolen heads of cattle have already recovered.

Police DIG in Isiolo
Deputy Inspector General Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli and the Eastern Regional Security team have arrived in Isiolo to assess the security situation and coordinate the operations in the area until peace and order are restored.
Reinforcement teams from Isiolo Police Station, ASTU and NPR have been dispatched and investigations launched by DCI.
